How I Film My VRoid (Webcam Motion Capture)

How I Film My VRoid (Webcam Motion Capture)

I wanted to become a vTuber. That was the goal. But I’m on a Mac, and trying to figure out how to get my VRoid working without a Windows PC was a mess. Windows would have made everything 100% easier, but I was determined to make it work.

At first I tried iPhone apps. They were okay, but limited. Then I spent time using a cloud PC just to record my avatar in VR Chat, which felt like overkill. Then I found Webcam Motion Capture.

Why This Software Changed Everything

Webcam Motion Capture offered a free version. I could test it before committing to anything, which was huge. I downloaded it, imported my VRoid, and it just worked. First try.

The setup was easy. Way easier than I expected. And the tracking was smooth. Way better than anything I’d been using before. My avatar actually looked like it was following my movements pretty closely.

The One Problem I Hit

Early on, I noticed some lag and latency in the tracking. It wasn’t the software though. I adjusted my lighting and everything became way more reliable. Turns out good lighting matters a lot for webcam tracking.

That was it. That was the only issue.

What You Need

  • Mac or Windows computer
  • VRoid model (exported as VRM file)
  • Webcam or iPhone
  • Webcam Motion Capture software (get it here)

Optional: A ring light or desk lamp helps with tracking accuracy.

How to Set It Up

1. Download and install

The software comes with two apps: Webcam Motion Capture (captures your video) and Webcam Motion Receiver (displays your VRoid).

2. Import your VRoid

Click Import VRoid, select your VRM file.

3. Start tracking

Open Webcam Motion Capture, allow camera access, and your VRoid will start mirroring your movements. Head, face, expressions, speech. It all tracks in real time.

If you want full-body tracking, make sure your camera can see your arms and elbows.

4. Adjust if needed

Position yourself about 2-3 feet from the camera at eye level. Make sure you have good front-facing light. That’s really it.

iPhone Tracking Update

There’s now an iPhone app that uses FaceID for even more accurate tracking. I haven’t run into any actual tracking problems with the webcam version, but if you want better precision, the iPhone option is there.

Is It Worth It?

I subscribed, then ended up paying the full cost to own it. For me, it was absolutely worth it. This is the easiest way I’ve found to vTube with a VRoid on Mac. No Windows required. No expensive gear. Just a webcam and the software.

If you’ve been trying to figure out how to make vTubing work on Mac like I was, this is it.
